Happiness is an Inside Job

ree

I am sure you heard this before: Happiness is an inside job.

Our life is the sum of all experiences we

go through between two significant times- our birth and death

For all the experiences we go through, our mind creates labels - Good, bad, exciting, depressing, frustrating

Yet, in all of these there remains a constant- The you.- Observer going through all the experiences

As we go through life, what are we all seeking really?

What we are seeking is really HAPPINESS!

We think our perfect partner will make us happy and we will have fun going to all the places we will go and experiencing different activities.

We are also collecting things in the quest to make us happy- cars, vacation homes and all the things we fill up in our homes.

And when something happens outside of us that is unpleasant, our mind tells us that we are feeling miserable.

So, what do we do?

We control it.

We either run away from it, by not feeling it and stuffing ourselves with food/alcohol/TV/ Netflix etc and/or try and change the person/environment to make ourselves happy again

And maybe we feel happy temporarily, but only fleetingly and then the drama starts all over again

In the quest for happiness, we try and control everything outside of us.

Yet, we lose sight of the fact that we are BORN happy. Nothing outside needs to change to make us happy

So, how do we let go of the constant identification with the states of our mind?

The only way is going within and putting all our consciousness in the moment in front of us and be present within as it unfolds and be okay with whatever unfolds and engage with that moment fully.

Allow the moment to unfold without manipulating the outside, just like all of creation allows the sunrise and sunset to go on without wanting to change it.

We have had fleeting glimpses of such moments- when our babies were born, our first kiss, beautiful sunset or sunrise we watched in a special place.

We call these fleeting moments as memorable because we put all our presence in that one specific moment and allowed ourselves to feel it fully without the mind trying to label it.

What if we allowed more of such moments in our lives and not be defined by our past or future projections?

Would that allow us to have a happier life? A more memorable, exciting life?

What are your thoughts?
